Paducah firefighter, TTU student passed away after Martin County crash

LUBBOCK, Texas — The Texas Department of Public Safety on Friday said Shelby Carroll, 19, of Huffman, and Jack (Lorin) Parks, 22, of Paducah, were killed after a crash in Martin County that happened on Thursday afternoon.

Parks was identified as a Paducah firefighter in a social media post from the department . Officials asked for prayers for Parks’s family and for the department. A post shared by fire department officials said Parks and Carroll were students at Texas Tech University.

According to DPS, the crash happened on State Highway 349 near mile marker 300 at 1:45 p.m.

A DPS crash report said a freightliner with a trailer driven by Amador Reyes Terrazas, 31, of Odessa, was stopped northbound on the highway. The jeep wrangler driven by Carroll was also heading northbound in the inside lane and struck the end of the trailer. Both Carroll and Parks were pronounced dead at the scene, DPS stated.

The driver of the truck was not injured, according to the crash report. DPS said all occupants were using seatbelts at the time of the crash.
