Asheville apples take center stage at Surfside Beach Annual Fall Festival

SURFSIDE BEACH, S.C. (WBTW)– Surfside Drive was closed down Saturday for the town’s Annual Surfside Beach Fall Family Festival.

There was live music, dancing, food trucks, a kid zone, arts and crafts vendors.

And the best part– an apple pie baking contest, where News13 meteorologist Scotty Powell was one of the judges.

Taking home first place was Aimee Montes. She and her husband traveled up to Asheville bringing supplies to those devasted by Helene. While there, they stopped by Sky Top Orchard to pick ingredients for their pie.

“We went and visited everyone and tried to help out what we can. Then we brought our apples back, made our own caramel and our own crust and just put the love into it.” she said. “It was for a good cause. We wanted to bring a little bit of that down here too.”

As if that’s not sweet enough, Montes said this was the first competition they have ever entered, and won.

The festival was from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
