Heat Records Tumble Across Southern California; Palm Springs hits Sweltering 115-Degrees

SAN DIEGO, CA – Southern California experienced scorching temperatures on October 5, 2024, with several locations breaking or tying historical heat records, according to the National Weather Service (NWS) in San Diego.

Palm Springs set a new high of 115°F, surpassing its previous record of 111°F set in 1987. Indio reached 114°F, breaking its 1917 record of 110°F, while Borrego climbed to 110°F, beating its 1987 record of 106°F.

Other areas that saw record temperatures include San Jacinto and Ramona, both tying their existing records of 105°F and 98°F, respectively. Idyllwild recorded 94°F, breaking its 1964 record of 89°F, and Lake Cuyamaca hit 91°F, surpassing its previous high of 88°F from 1980. Campo soared to 104°F, shattering its 1980 record of 97°F.
