Former City of Amarillo employee sentenced following embezzlement charge

AMARILLO, Texas (KAMR/KCIT) — A former employee with the City of Amarillo was sentenced to two years in prison following an investigation into embezzlement.

Amy Dixon was sentenced Tuesday after pleading guilty in June to the embezzlement charges.

As was previously reported by Myhighplains.com, Dixon had previously pleaded guilty to a charge of “Conspiracy to Embezzle from a Federally Funded Program.”

Dixon, who formally worked in the Community Development Department as the Homeless Management Information Specialist from 2012 until December 2023, accepted a plea agreement after being charged and embezzled about $465,511, which she was ordered to pay back following her sentencing.

Myhighplains.com reported that Dixon was responsible for distributing HUD funds through the Emergency Solutions Grant Program (ESG) which provided funding for homeless or near-homeless citizens in Amarillo to assist with housing costs.
