Stephen A. Smith’s predictions on Grizzlies and Ja Morant will make Memphis happy

While teams like the Boston Celtics, Denver Nuggets, and Oklahoma City Thunder are the most popular title contenders for the 2024-25 season, there is always a case to be made for the underdog.

On a recent episode of ESPN’s First Take, host Molly asked Stephen A. Smith to pick his dark horse championship team. The veteran NBA analyst chose the Memphis Grizzlies.

Smith suggested one shouldn’t sleep on Memphis, especially with Ja Morant back. Going further, Smith claimed that Morant could even make a case for league MVP.

“I got to look at the Memphis Grizzlies,” said SAS.

Addressing Morant’s return, the NY native added, “Ladies and gentlemen, we’ve forgotten because he (Morant) hasn’t been around for obvious reasons how great this young man is, how electrifying he can be, and the kind of impact he can have on the Memphis Grizzlies.”

Stephen A. believes the Grizzlies have the potential to surprise and catch teams off-guard.

Out of action for a while due to some off-court controversies and injury troubles, Morant hopes to turn a clean slate. The 6’2″ guard’s explosive athleticism, scoring ability, and play-making skills make him a top candidate for league MVP.
