VDOT to hold public meeting on I-64/I-264 Interchange Improvement Project

NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) – VDOT will hold a public meeting Thursday afternoon at Lake Taylor Middle School to speak about Phase III of the I-64/I-264 Interchange Improvement Project.

Phase III of the project is intended to provide additional capacity, reduce daily congestion along I-64 and improve safety and traffic operations.

The entire improvement project for the interstate started back in 2016 and sits at an estimated cost of over $500 million.

The first two phases of the project were completed in 2019 and 2023.

VDOT completes work at I-64, I-264 Interchange

While the first two phases tackled issues heading westbound, Phase III will address eastbound problems.

According to VDOT, this latest phase will include many improvements, including widening I-64 East from four to five lanes between Northampton Boulevard to the I-264 interchanges, add a high occupancy tolled part time shoulder express lane and more.

The overall project is estimated to be completed by spring of 2030.

Thursday night’s meeting on Phase III of the project will begin at 4 p.m.
