(This story was updated because a previous version included an inaccuracy.) ( It should have stated that the court system received about 80 letters opposing Perkins’ prosecution. )
Devin Perkins, the New Smyrna Beach man convicted of vehicular homicide in a crash that killed TikTok star Ali Spice and two others, does not deserve to spend decades in prison, wrote a nurse who testified during his trial, describing the battered young man who arrived at her hospital.
Perkins, 24, was driving a car at 100 mph just before it collided with a pickup truck that was traveling the wrong way on State Road 44 two years ago, according to prosecutors. Perkins survived, but three passengers in his car did not: his girlfriend, Alexandra Dulin, 21, who was also known as Ali Spice with almost a million TikTok followers; his best friend, Kyle Jacob Moser, 25, of Daytona Beach; and Ava Fellerman, 20, of Treasure Island.
Families of the three young victims are split; Dulin’s and Moser’s families opposed Perkins’ prosecution, while Fellerman’s father supported the decision by the State Attorney’s Office.
