CHARLOTTE ( QUEEN CITY NEWS ) — As the month of October draws to a close, we are wrapping up what has been one of the driest Octobers in Charlotte’s history. So far, just two-tenths of an inch of rain has been recorded at the airport in Charlotte. This comes on the heels of Hurricane Helene devastating the region with flooding rains that led to one of the wettest Septembers in city history with over nine inches of rain.
Nearly all the rain that we have seen this month fell this past Saturday, which unfortunately coincided with the Helene benefit concert at Bank of America Stadium . In fact, the last time that we saw more than a quarter inch of rain in Charlotte was when Helene moved through. It has been so dry this month that we are starting to see minor drought conditions pop up across western portions of the state. These are the same locations that, in some places, saw over two feet of rain from Helene.
Even with the extremes of dry and wet weather for the Carolinas, we are still seeing well above-average precipitation for the Carolinas over the past year. Looking ahead to the start of November, while a couple of showers are possible on Friday and early next week, our dry pattern looks to continue into the start of November.
