The Missouri Athletic Club (MAC) is a historic building located at 405-409 Washington Avenue in St. Louis, Missouri. This is known as the Downtown Clubhouse. The building was added to the National Register of Historic Places on April 16, 2007.
The clubhouse contains two restaurants, a ballroom, a barber shop, private meeting rooms, a reading room, a billiard parlor, a rooftop deck, over 75 guest rooms, and full-service athletic facilities.
The athletic facilities include weight training, a pro shop, whirlpools, tanning beds, wet and dry saunas, trainers, pros, a masseuse, squash courts, racquetball courts, and handball courts.
The building was also known as the Missouri Athletic Association Building. The architectural style is Renaissance Revival. The foundation is limestone and the walls are brick and limestone. The clubhouse was designed by prominent architect, William B. Ittner.
The Missouri Athletic Club was established in 1902. This was one of the first and only businessmen’s amateur athletic clubs organized in St. Louis and one of the first to open in the country.
