Greeley bottle recycling plant engulfed in flames Sunday during three-alarm fire

DENVER (KDVR) — Crews were able to quell a blaze that started in a large commercial building on 9th Avenue in Greeley on Sunday morning, but are still investigating what started the fire.

Police and fire crews responded to the 100 block of 9th Avenue at about 5:30 a.m. on Sunday and issued a Reverse 911 call to nearby residents. The building was reportedly used for bottle recycling and was unoccupied at the time the fire started.

The Greeley Fire Department was aided by the Platte Valley Fire District, Windsor/Severance Fire District, Evans Fire District and Eaton Fire District.

On Facebook, the Greeley Fire Department said that responding teams adopted defensive approaches to contain the fire and prevent any spread to adjacent buildings.

The agency said that the Colorado Department of Fire Prevention and Control will have investigators on scene alongside Greeley firefighters throughout the week to determine the cause and source of the fire…
