Columbus City Schools board unanimously approves staffing cuts to address $50 million budget shortfall

COLUMBUS, Ohio — The Columbus City Schools Board of Education unanimously approved dozens of staffing cuts Tuesday evening as they continue to address the district’s $50 million budget shortfall.

The board first approved a resolution to abolish or suspend 62 positions from the district.

Those include:

  • Abolish vacant administrative positions (34 positions)
  • Abolish administrative positions and suspend administrative employment contracts (19 positions)
  • Abolish administrative positions of family engagement coordinators and suspend administrative employment contracts (Six positions)
  • Abolish administrative positions of supervisor – health services and suspend administrative employment contracts (Three positions)

The cuts will save the district just over $7 million, which is more than the $6.6 million directed to be cut by the board in December…
