Over 3 decades-old Albuquerque cold case solved thanks to new DNA genome testing

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – Since the ’90s, the name of a woman found dead in an Albuquerque motel was unknown, and no family could be identified. But thanks to new technology, an unwavering cold case team was able to give her name back.

“So it got to a point with me that I wanted to give her her name back,” says civilian investigator with APD, Gerald Roach. Back in 1991, a woman was found dead in a Super 8 Motel from an apparent suicide.

But police have no idea who she is, and it’s something they couldn’t figure out for decades. “I had a couple cleared out through fingerprint comparisons, one through DNA comparisons, several from comparing photographs. We could never identify her,” Roach says…
