WILMINGTON, N.C. (WECT) – A domestic violence survivor and author is co-sponsoring a community event to raise awareness and funds around domestic violence, timed to coincide with International Women’s Day.
Ally Shaw, who said she is a survivor of domestic violence, chronic illness, and cancer, wrote a book she described as a way to offer perspective to others navigating trauma. She said the writing process began as a therapeutic exercise and a way to help her seven children before she recognized it could reach a wider audience.
“I really wanted to be able to help them initially,” Shaw said. “And then I saw that it could have a wider circle and help other people who were kind of navigating difficult, trauma-related things.”…
