MADISON, Wis. — The man who pleaded guilty in the 2024 killing of a McFarland woman was sentenced Monday to 15 years in prison.
James Barnes-Morris was convicted of first-degree reckless homicide stemming from the death of 24-year-old Brooke Strattan. He was originally charged with first-degree intentional homicide but pleaded guilty in December 2025 to the lesser charge of reckless homicide.
Strattan was reported missing from Madison’s west side in October 2024 and her body was later recovered from a pond in the UW-Madison Arboretum. She and Barnes-Morris were in a relationship and he was the last person seen with her before her death…
