GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — Relatives of a murder victim said they were shocked to learn that one of his paroled killers was running for Grand Rapids Third Ward city commission.
Family members of victim Ronald Nathaniel Jones Jr. said they were also conflicted.
Richard Griffin, a teenager at the time of the shooting, was open about his past when he announced he would seek the commission seat that covers the city’s Southeast Side.
He made that announcement at a watch party Saturday — 30 years to the day after he was sentenced to prison for a killing in the Third Ward.
