Madison County considers rezoning along scenic byway near Marshall

MARSHALL – The former Lonesome Mountain Market has a long history as a community market in Madison County, as the building is likely more than 100 years old.

The building is at 13490 U.S. 25, situated between downtown Marshall and downtown Hot Springs in the Stackhouse community of Marshall. Stackhouse is known for its recreational attractions due to its proximity to the Pisgah National Forest, which includes a U.S. Forest Service-maintained French Broad River takeout site.

Owner Johnny Moore applied to have the site rezoned from Residential-Agriculture, or RA zone, to Retail Business, or RB zone, appearing before the Madison County Board of Commissioners and Planning and Zoning Administrator Tom Herdelin for a public hearing March 10 on the proposed rezoning…
