Grand Rapids art supply store to close after 78 years amid stadium disruption

A 78-year-old Grand Rapids printroom and art supply store is closing permanently next month, with its owner citing declining sales and parking disruptions from the $175 million Amway Stadium construction as factors behind the decision.

Service Reproduction Co. at 340 Summer Ave. NW will close April 4.

The business opened in 1948. It prints large-scale projects like building plans and architectural plots, and offers copying and scanning services. The store also sells a wide range of art supplies, from brushes, canvases and easels to mediums like oil and watercolor paints and clay.

General Manager Carroll Warners, whose father, Robert Norkus, owns the store, said the decision to close was an emotional one. Warners has worked at Service Reproduction for 38 years — her whole adult career…
