EASTERN ARKANSAS — Jefferson County has joined a growing number of Arkansas counties to declare a burn ban due to an increasing risk of wildfire danger.
According to the Arkansas Forestry Division, about 35 of the state’s 75 counties are currently under a high risk of wildfire danger. That includes several counties in eastern Arkansas including Clay, Craighead, Greene, Independence, Jackson, Lawrence, Mississippi, Poinsett, Randolph, and Sharp counties.
Under a high risk of wildfire danger, fires ignite easily and spread quickly. Unattended brush fires and campfires are likely to escape, and fires may become serious. The rest of the state is under a moderate risk…
