MURFREESBORO, Tenn. — A head-on collision on Interstate 840 Sunday evening left one person dead and another seriously injured, according to a preliminary report from the Tennessee Highway Patrol. The crash occurred in the Murfreesboro area near the Interstate 24 interchange, around the 53-mile marker. Authorities reported that the collision took place in the westbound lanes, but investigators believe the sequence of events began in the eastbound lanes.

According to state troopers, a 19-year-old driver, identified as Brookelyn Whitaker, was traveling eastbound on I-840 in a 2015 Nissan Altima when her vehicle left the roadway and entered the center median.
