Erie boy died in ‘horrendous’ conditions. Parents, boyfriend in court

Three adults were in positions to care for Michael N. Hayes, an Erie 8-year-old who was autistic and suffered from chronic breathing problems.

But none of the three sought medical attention for Michael in the weeks he became gravely ill on Jan. 8, 2024.

That was the day Michael, a second-grader, left Harding Elementary School early after he vomited and collapsed in a hallway. He was so weak he had to clutch the railing to prevent himself from tumbling down the stairs…
