The Town of Newburgh may be small, but its wastewater system is doing some seriously big work.
According to a newly released 2025 CMOM Report, the Newburgh Wastewater Utility treated nearly 1.4 billion gallons of wastewater last year while keeping system overflows incredibly low.
Newburgh Utility Serves Far Beyond Town Limits
Even though Newburgh has fewer than 3,500 residents, its wastewater system supports about 40,000 people across a 20,000-acre service area.

Town Administrative Manager Chris Cooke called the setup unique.
“Newburgh’s a unicorn,” Cooke said, noting the town operates infrastructure far larger than its population would suggest.
