Protesters push back as hundreds of San Diego Unified School District employees face layoffs

SAN DIEGO — Hundreds of San Diego Unified School District employees could soon be out of a job, and on Tuesday, protesters poured into the district’s Board of Education meeting to make their voices heard.

They fought to save those jobs before the district moves forward with layoff notices. The school board voted unanimously on March 3 to move forward with layoff notices for district employees to close a projected budget deficit.

At SDUSD, more than 200 positions are at risk of being eliminated…
