St. Charles Parish Sheriff defends deputy seen shouting in viral airport video, cites tense TSA line conditions

NEW ORLEANS — A viral social media video showing a St. Charles Parish Sheriff’s deputy yelling at passengers at Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport prompted a response from Sheriff Greg Champagne.

In a statement issued on Monday, Champagne said the video does not show the full context of what was happening. As large crowds and long TSA lines created a tense situation on Sunday, the sheriff said that the deputy in the video was simply restoring order to a “heated” situation and that airport officials were thankful for his intervention.
