‘Full of light’: Cheerleading coach among two killed in Janesville plant explosion

JANESVILLE, Wis. (WMTV) – Family and friends are mourning the loss of Alex Perkins, one of the two employees they say was killed in a March 18 explosion at NaturPak in Janesville.

An avid member of the cheerleading community, many knew Perkins as their beloved “Coach L.”

“He is a person that’s full of light,” Michael Mathos, Perkins’ brother said. “The moment he walks into the room, you are immediately drawn to his light, his persona, you see everything about him. He always wore his heart on his sleeve and would give his shirt off of his back to make sure that you were always taken care of.”

Perkins moved from Ohio to the Rockford area in 2011 and quickly became a powerful force in the cheerleading community…
