An Ankeny couple is suing their school district, accusing officials of failing to protect their child from assault by classmates.
The plaintiffs, whom the Register is not naming to protect their child’s identity, filed the lawsuit March 3 against the Ankeny Community School District. They seek unspecified damages for negligence.
According to the complaint, the plaintiffs’ child was a student at Ashland Ridge Elementary School. In March 2024, the parents warned the school in writing that other students had made threats of violence against their son.
