NBC4 to air one-hour look at Brian Shaffer’s disappearance to recognize 20 years

COLUMBUS, Ohio (WCMH) – This week marks two decades since Brian Shaffer was caught on surveillance footage entering a Columbus bar but never recorded leaving. To recognize 20 years since he went missing, NBC4 is airing a one-hour special dedicated to the case.

Anchor Andrea Robinson and Digital Reporter Ava Boldizar will tell the story of Shaffer’s disappearance in their most recent episode of Unsolved Ohio, which debuts on the NBC4 streaming app on Tuesday, March 31, at 7:30 p.m.

On March 31, 2006, Shaffer, a 27-year-old Ohio State medical student, went bar-hopping near campus with his friend and former roommate, William “Clint” Florence. They also met up with another friend named Meredith Reed.

The group’s last stop of the night was the Ugly Tuna Saloona, a now-closed bar that was at 1546 N. High St. The trio is captured on camera entering the establishment at 1:15 a.m. At some point in the bar, Shaffer separated from his friends after he reportedly said he was going to see the band that was playing that night.

Shaffer was last seen on camera stepping outside the bar at 1:55 a.m., speaking with two young women, then appearing to re-enter the bar. At 2 a.m., Florence and Reed were ready to leave and began looking for Shaffer, but could not find him. They called him and left a voicemail, then left a short time later…
