EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — The reason for the partial collapse of a building in Downtown El Paso appears to be related to a hidden problem with a support column, according to an asbestos assessment of the building conducted by an engineer report, which was provided to KTSM 9 News.
On March 18, debris fell from the building, leading to a large emergency response. Some people were nearby, but no one was hurt.

The first floor of the building had been used for retail, while the second floor was empty. The building had minor code violations, but none were related to structural concerns, the report stated.
According to the report, the owner submitted a plan to stabilize the building. Once debris is cleared, crews will install temporary supports and a պաշտպան canopy for pedestrians.
