2 Sioux Falls officers on leave after gas station shooting

Officials with the Sioux Falls Police Department state an attempt at arresting a Sioux Falls man Tuesday, March 31, ended with officers firing their guns and a K-9 chasing and biting a suspect on the north side of downtown.

Authorities made the attempt at about 4:20 p.m. outside of a gas station near the West Russel Street and North Minnesota Avenue, according to a press release that night from Sgt. Aaron Benson, the department’s public information officer.

The man, Richard Paul Olson Jr., 36, was on federal probation for possession of a firearm by a prohibited person and had a federal warrant for probation violation, according to Police Chief Jon Thum…
