Ethics Commission fines ex-Athens parks worker accused of $16K theft

A former Athens Parks and Recreation Department employee was found to have violated state ethics law after an investigation into missing concession money at the Athens Sportsplex, officials said on Wednesday.

The city discovered financial discrepancies related to concession cash receipts at the facility in late 2024. An internal review by city administration and law enforcement wrapped up in March 2025, suggesting that Christy Gill-Strong, a department administrative assistant, had taken $16,000 for her own use.
