In the 12 months ended this past January, the Ohio Turnpike was shorted a little more than 6% of the $423 million in tolls it charged motorists — or about $25.6 million — a lot of that from truckers who found novel ways to cheat with unreadable plates and other measures.
For about $11.6 million of what’s owed “turnpike officials haven’t been able to identify the driver,” cleveland.com’s Jeremy Pelzer reported.
Most of the rest has already gone to collections — including cases where “some trucking companies owe ‘six figures’ in tolls, even after receiving three sets of invoices and being sent to collections,” Pelzer noted. About $3.1 million is not yet in collection, so motorists can still pay up…
