Drought continues with no rain forecast as temperatures heat up in Carolinas

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (WBTV) – A warming trend is expected to bring dangerously warm conditions and critical fire danger concerns across the Carolinas through early next week.

Warm, windy start to week

Another warm day is in store Monday with highs forecast in the 80s around Charlotte.

While Monday will not be as hot as what is coming, it will feature gusty southwest winds at 10-15 mph with gusts around 15-20 mph. Humidity will rebound slightly to the 30-35 percent range during peak heat Monday afternoon.

The combination of gusty winds, low humidity and bone-dry vegetation has created dangerous conditions for any outdoor burning. Any burning requires local permission and extreme caution.

Record heat coming

Temperatures will surge starting Tuesday and will remain dangerously hot through Saturday.

  • Tuesday: Upper 80s to near 90 degrees
  • Wednesday-Saturday: Near 90 degrees with some areas possibly reaching the low to mid-90s
  • Normal high for mid-April: Around 73 degrees

Daily record highs are possible every single day from Tuesday through Saturday…
