DECATUR, Ala. — A Calhoun Community College student has created a new scholarship aimed at helping student mothers stay in school when financial pressures threaten their education.
Kara Jones, a general studies student with a focus on social work and criminal justice at Calhoun Community College, established the $2,000 Supporting Moms, Supporting Students Scholarship through the Calhoun Foundation to support student mothers facing financial barriers while pursuing their degrees.
Jones said the idea began taking shape through her experience working as a personal trainer and later volunteering at the Huntsville Pregnancy Resource Center, where she worked with women in need of basic resources and saw a gap in support for continuing education…
