LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) — Crews from the Michigan State Police Emergency Management & Homeland Security Division have been working to reduce high water levels at the Cheboygan Lock and Dam Complex.
According to a social media post by the division, a crane was used to remove gates at the dam to improve water flow overnight Sunday. Additional pumps were also installed on Sunday afternoon to remove water. Sandbags were placed around the dam on Saturday.
As of 7:00 a.m. on Monday, the water level was 13.75 inches below the top of the structure. That was a 2.25-inch increase from yesterday.
If the water reaches 12 inches below the top of the dam, additional “public safety measures” will be implemented…
