DOTHAN, Ala. (WDHN) — A statewide fire alert is now in effect as dry conditions and low humidity fuel a surge of wildfires across Alabama, forestry officials announced.
On April 13, State Forester Rick Oates issued the alert effective immediately, explaining that drought conditions are worsening and there is an increased risk of fast spreading fires.
Over the weekend, 50 wildfires burned more than 2,300 acres statewide, including a 500-acre wildfire in Mobile County, a 412 acre-blaze in Coosa and a 382-acre fire in Choctaw County. Additional fires in Washington and Escambia counties scorched a total of 260 and 105 acres, respectively…
