Magnitude 5.7 earthquake in Nevada felt across parts of California

A magnitude 5.7 earthquake struck western Nevada on Monday evening, shaking communities across the region and sending tremors into parts of Northern California, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

The quake hit at 6:29 p.m. about 12 miles east-southeast of Silver Springs, Nev., at a depth of about 6 miles, the USGS reported. The agency initially reported the earthquake at a lower magnitude before revising it to 5.7 after further analysis.
