Nine people were arrested last Tuesday in connection with the theft of underground fiber optic cable that caused widespread communication outages and an estimated $194,000 in damage, authorities said.
Investigators with the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department Rural Crimes Task Force began investigating the theft March 31 at about 6 p.m. near the intersection of East Fairway Drive and North Crossroads Drive in San Bernardino.
According to the Sheriff’s Department, the stolen underground fiber optic cable belonged to AT&T Inc. and the theft resulted in two days of critical infrastructure communication outages in the area…
