JACKSON, Miss. (WJTV) – Jackson Mayor John Horhn would like to impose a new contract for Jackson’s new police chief, Dr. RaShall Brackney. However, the contract remains a point of contention between the City Council and the current administration.
The contract asked for a certain provision that includes a financial guarantee of an undisclosed amount of money if Brackney leaves the position. With the city already facing budget concerns, the request has some council members concerned.

“You know, the council does a lot of consideration of those stakes. And public safety is really crucial to our citizens. It’s crucial to Jackson being able to rise up and achieve the success that everybody wants to achieve,” said Councilman Vernon Hartley, Ward 5.
