Anchorage extends downtown police foot patrols through 2026

The administration of Mayor Suzanne LaFrance is continuing dedicated Anchorage Police Department foot patrols in downtown Anchorage as part of ongoing efforts to improve safety and support local businesses.

The patrols, initially launched ahead of Fur Rendezvous, have now been extended through the end of 2026 as part of broader downtown revitalization efforts.

Two officers are assigned to walk the downtown corridor daily from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m., seven days a week, under an overtime detail funded through the hotel bed tax. Officials say the goal is to maintain a visible, approachable police presence in one of the city’s busiest areas…
