ANCHORAGE, Alaska (KTUU) – The municipal greenhouses tucked away in Russian Jack Park are a riot of color right now. They’re filled with thousands of flowers, many nearing full bloom, which are almost ready to be planted.
“We grow all of our plants from seed, and it takes months to get them to this size and flowering,” said Horticultural Supervisor, Annie Dubois. “And then it takes a good month or so of close to 30 employees out there planting every day.”
Dubois said planting will start next week, with a goal of having beds ready for Memorial Day. This year, she said, there’s a patriotic theme to some of the plots and baskets to celebrate the nation’s birthday…
