PHENIX CITY, Ala. (WTVM) – A Russell County jury returned a guilty verdict Friday in a 2022 murder trial.
Prosecutors said the verdict came after jurors heard how the victim was killed by blunt force head trauma and strangulation.
Jason Cole of Florence, Alabama, was found guilty of murdering 41-year-old Rachael Mixson, his girlfriend at the time, and of abuse of a corpse for how he treated her body after her death.
Discovery and arrest
Mixson’s body was discovered by Phenix City officers on the side of Cutrate Road on Oct. 22, 2022. Cole was arrested two days later on Oct. 24, 2022…
