Lawsuit filed against Vista Maria over alleged abuse in Dearborn Heights

DEARBORN HEIGHTS, Mich. (WJRT) – A lawsuit has been filed against a girls facility in the Detroit area, with dozens of women claiming they were victims of physical and sexual abuse.

The lawsuit against Vista Maria in the Dearborn Heights area claims the facility was meant to protect children but instead became a house of horrors. Six plaintiffs are named in the lawsuit, but dozens of other women have made claims and more lawsuits are expected.

ABC12 heard from Sophia Knoblauch in March, an Owosso native who was sent to the treatment facility when she was 12 years old. Knoblauch told ABC12 that staff there physically abused her and were slow to help her friends who had serious medical conditions…
