NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) – A new Tennessee law passed this session aims to protect people who stutter during traffic stops by alerting an officer to their condition.
The law is an expansion of the 2021 Precious Cargo Act which allows people with disabilities to get a medical condition designation in the Tennessee Vehicle Title and Registration System database that first responders can see before they approach someone.
“It really is to support people who may present differently than what a law enforcement offer is used to,” said Senator Raumesh Akbari, a sponsor of the updated law. “We want to protect them, make sure they’re handled with care, and that something doesn’t escalate when it doesn’t need to.”…
