DAPHNE, Ala. (WKRG) — Our Golden Apple award-winning teacher is first-grade teacher Mandy Barrick from Daphne East Elementary.
She was in the middle of a phonics lesson when our Golden Apple Caravan surprised her! We could tell she was shocked! She says that teaching doesn’t stop when the school bell rings.
Ms. Barrick was nominated for a Golden Apple by a former co-worker and also by the parent of a student.
Terry Janes is her former co-worker and a friend. “She has the natural ability to connect with every student she has been entrusted to teach. Ms. Barrick thinks outside the box and teaches in a way that is fun, motivating, yet effective. She meets every child when the child is and helps the child to soar. She is relentless in making sure that every child learns. Consequently, Ms. Barrick is extremely nurturing and provides a warm, safe classroom community. Her students always excel and her enthusiasm for her students and for perfecting her craft is contagious. Did I mention that Ms. Barrick could teach a fence post to read?
