Just in time for the state’s Clean Water Week, the Town Council Monday (4/13/26) approved issuing up to $11.1 million in bonds for what DPW Director Fred Gomes called “critical” upgrades to the town’s wastewater treatment plant and town sewer lines. The vote was 4-0 (Mike Donegan was absent).
The treatment plant off Crompton Avenue next to Greenwich Cove came online more than 40 years ago. There have been repairs and replacements over the years and now, Gomes said, more is required.
“We need to stay ahead of [plant deterioration] to avoid failure,” he said. The big-ticket item at the plant is replacement of the UV system, “the last piece of equipment before the water goes into the bay.”…
