San Diego couple pleads guilty to opening bank accounts and credit cards through massive mail theft ring

LA MESA, Calif. — A La Mesa couple has pleaded guilty to running a massive mail theft ring and using the information to open fake bank accounts, cash fraudulent checks, open credit cards, and obtain rental cars with fake identities.

According to a plea agreement obtained by CBS 8, David Burge and Kyrsten Bospflug admitted to targeting neighborhood cluster mailboxes throughout San Diego County by using counterfeit and stolen Postal Service keys. CBS 8 first reported on the case in April 2025.

Beginning in July 2023, the April 14 plea agreement states that Burge and Bospflug embarked on a mission to steal mail to obtain personally identifiable information from their victims…
