28-year-old Liverpool man accused of taking police on pursuit in stolen Mercedes before crashing it

CLAY, N.Y. (WSYR-TV) — New York State Police have confirmed to NewsChannel 9 their involvement in a late-night crash in Clay.

On April 14, around 11 p.m., a state trooper saw a gray vehicle — being driven by 28-year-old Mohamed Kaid, of Liverpool — headed northbound on Oswego Road. Except a license plate check revealed a 2019 Kia Optima, not the 2022 Mercedes-Benz the trooper was looking at — the car had switched plates.

According to NYSP, Kaid then turned east onto Wetzel Road, where the trooper tried to perform a traffic stop. But Kaid fled very fast, beginning a pursuit…
