Family of murder victim angered by alleged offer of payment

CLIFTON PARK β€” A father whose son was stabbed to death last year says an attorney for the teen who killed him told the family’s lawyer that a scholarship fund named in their son’s memory would receive a substantial contribution if they expressed support for a reduced penalty for the defendant, according to a draft of the father’s victim impact statement.

The defense attorney, however, denies making any sort of quid pro quo offer.

Bernard Brault started the scholarship fund at Hudson Valley Community College after his son, Simon Brault, was killed by Jaiden Ildefonso on May 31, 2025. Ildefonso was sentenced on April 3 to 15 years to life in state prison by Saratoga County Court Judge James R.
