SAND LAKE, N.Y. (NEWS10) — A Sand Lake man had an unexpected surprise on Wednesday while excavating his yard to build a new shed. The man uncovered a human skull, which is now reportedly in the New York State Museum’s hands.

New York State Police said Troopers responded to a home on Burden Lake Road for a report of human remains being found. Authorities said on Thursday that the remains are historical and no criminal investigation is involved.
The New York State Museum’s Department of Anthropology is continuing to excavate the site for other remains, and said they are from the 19th century. Stay with NEWS10 as Reporter Bianca Caputo gathers details for a full report tonight.
