Fatal crashes plunge in Eugene, but city says work isn’t done

EUGENE, Ore. – Ten people were killed in traffic crashes on Eugene streets in 2025, a 55% decrease from 2024, which was Eugene’s deadliest year on record with 22 fatal crashes.

The City of Eugene’s new 2025 Fatal Crash Report analyzes preliminary traffic crash data from the Oregon Department of Transportation. The tragic rise in fatal traffic crashes seen in Eugene and throughout the country since 2020 may finally be going down.

“We are encouraged by this decrease but also recognize that 10 lives lost is still too many,” Telles said. “The City of Eugene is not slowing down on its commitment to improve safety for all road users and one day see our traffic fatalities reach zero.”…
