April 9 was an historic day for the Town of Reddick. Myra Downing-Sherman became the first woman and first Black person to be sworn in as mayor.
Founded in 1882, the town was on the brink of dissolving in early 2024, when the mayor and five council members resigned to protest Form 6. The form required elected officials to publicly disclose their financial information, which many office holders in small municipalities like Reddick felt was an invasion of privacy. They left office rather than completing the document.
